I am interested in illustrating the precise moment when connection occurs. The feeling I get while walking down the block and stumbling upon a spot where the sun warms me, the birds are singing, and the flowers releasing their scents. Simultaneously, I’ve got physical, visual, auditory, and olfactory stimulation. The ultimate connection. I feel present and perfectly stimulated. I wish to share this with you . I use fate, color, sound, and texture to recreate the perfect moment.

Because I value sustainability and not using materials that create new waste, I only buy second hand fabric. It feels as though the material chooses me. Whatever shows up at the thrift store that day is what I have to work with. This brings an element of fate into my design. I thrive within the parameters of design that come from using only the materials that are available. Problem solving is my specialty!

The synesthesia that occurs for me while listening to music enables notes and rhythms to present as color and texture. I use this to inform my fabric and thread choices. I also appreciate balance and juxtaposition with a touch of provocative.

I have experienced the power of color as a healing agent. I’ve been able to transform moods by changing the color I’m wearing. I often wear red when I need to feel grounded and I often wear all black when I design so as not to have my own energy influence my intended energy. I’ve recently begun studying chakra clearing and the way the energy centers in our body pertain to specific colors. Sometimes I will make a garment with the intended focus of sending healing energy, and will use the color that corresponds to that energy point.

How colors and music play together with fabric and design is a reminder that we are all collaborating. Our actions create reactions. The world is a place where we all consider one another. My creation-style is a way of practicing the unification between sight, sound, rhythm and color. A celebration of how good it feels when things line up.
